Household Portraits

I relate to some things by using them, and these paintings show that relationship. They’re about disposal, transformation and ennoblement. I wonder: what spark remains in an empty tin can or crumpled scrap of paper after it’s discarded? Is the name of a thing lost if its label rubs off?
Reuse is the name of my process, which begins with the leftover housepaint I spread over my canvas. Scale, surface and texture are important to me, as is a ragged edge between the portrait and the wall.
