Household Portraits

I relate to some things by using them, and these paintings show that relationship. They’re about disposal, transformation and ennoblement. I wonder: what spark remains in an empty tin can or crumpled scrap of paper after it’s discarded? Is the name of a thing lost if its label rubs off?
Reuse is my procees, beginning with the tints of leftover housepaint I pour over my canvases. In my arrangements, I play with what’s touching in order to get these objects to talk to each other. Scale and texture are important to me, as is a ragged edge between the portrait and the wall.
